The Met Office has warned that parts of the UK could be experiencing heatwave conditions by the end of the week, with temperatures potentially reaching 30°C in some areas.
Southern England to See Highest Temperatures
Southern regions, particularly the south and south east of England, are expected to see the highest temperatures, potentially reaching 28°C or more by Thursday. However, forecasters also predict thunderstorms and rain showers in some locations.
Monday is expected to be dry and settled in many places, but the North East will be cloudy and cooler with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday could bring further rain from the coast.
Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick explained: "Throughout the week things are heating up in the south and South East. We've got high pressure starting to build and there's a warm plume moving up through continental Europe."
Heatwave Status Uncertain
Criswick added: "Whether or not it'll be a heatwave remains to be seen as there's still a lot to play for, but things are certainly turning a lot warmer, if not maybe even hot, by the end of the week, although this is mostly confined to the South East."
Other areas will also warm up but are likely to remain cloudy and humid, with rain and showers. By Thursday, London could see temperatures around 28°C.
Extended Forecast: Hot Weather to Persist
The Met Office's long-range forecast for June 29 to July 13 indicates that high pressure will remain close to the UK, bringing plenty of dry, settled weather. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, with potential for hot conditions and occasional thunderstorms, especially in the south. Towards mid-July, the influence of high pressure may weaken or shift north or west, increasing the chance of unsettled weather.
