A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck near the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday afternoon, shaking hundreds of thousands of residents and tourists in the Nevada desert.
The quake was detected at 4:47 p.m. ET, less than 15 miles from the famous Las Vegas Strip, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Light to moderate shaking has been reported throughout the city, which is home to more than 680,000 people. Over two million people reside in the greater Las Vegas metropolitan area.
There have been no immediate reports of damage to the city or severe injuries, although some residents noted that their homes were shaken by the unexpected tremor. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
