9 PS Plus Games Leaving in December 2025

PlayStation Plus subscribers have been put on alert, with a list of nine games confirmed to be departing the subscription service's catalogue next month. The removal date is set for December 16, 2025, giving players roughly four weeks to complete any titles on their list.

Major Franchise Titles Lead the Exit

The list of departing games features two significant names from major franchises. Grand Theft Auto III: Definitive Edition, the remastered version of the classic open-world game, is among the most notable exits. Its departure coincides with the return of Grand Theft Auto V to the service, a move that has received a mixed reception from the gaming community.

Joining it is Battlefield 2042, which is leaving just as its successor, Battlefield 6 and its REDSEC Battle Royale mode, are surging in popularity. Both games had controversial launches but were substantially improved by their developers post-release.

A Checkered History of Launches and Fixes

The Definitive Edition of Grand Theft Auto III had a particularly rocky start when it launched in 2021. Developer Rockstar Games was forced to issue a public apology after players reported a multitude of technical problems. These issues included game-breaking bugs, a heavily criticised cartoonish art style, and infamous rain effects that severely hampered visibility.

In an official statement at the time, Rockstar said, "The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect." The company subsequently worked to improve the experience, with many of the initial flaws being addressed.

Similarly, Battlefield 2042 was met with a lukewarm reception at launch. Its developer, DICE, spent years rebuilding and refining the game based on player feedback, transforming it into a much more stable and enjoyable product ahead of the next Battlefield installment.
