Wealdstone Football Club have confirmed that midfielder Sak Hassan is unlikely to feature for the team again this season following his unauthorised participation in the Baller League tournament. The 24-year-old player appeared for YouTuber KSI's Prime FC side in the indoor six-a-side competition, which includes former professionals, influencers, and celebrities, without obtaining permission from his club.
Contract Breach Leads to Severe Consequences
A formal statement released by the National League club on Tuesday revealed that manager Gary Waddock does not anticipate Hassan being part of the squad's plans for the remainder of the current campaign. The Dutch-born Somalia international, who previously played for Hashtag United in the Isthmian League, has been omitted from the last two match-day squads and has managed only 21 minutes of playing time under Waddock's management.
Club Chairman Issues Firm Statement
Wealdstone chairman Rory Fitzgerald emphasised the seriousness of the situation, stating clearly that Hassan and his representatives are fully aware he has breached his playing contract by choosing to feature in the Baller League. Fitzgerald provided absolute clarity that Wealdstone FC retains Hassan's official player registration, and all decisions regarding his involvement for the rest of the season rest solely with the club's board of directors.
The chairman further explained that the club's leadership has already convened with manager Gary Waddock and the coaching team to discuss both immediate and longer-term considerations regarding player composition and recruitment strategies. This breach has prompted internal reviews about squad management and contractual adherence.
Season Statistics and Play-Off Prospects
Despite the controversy, Hassan has made 32 appearances overall for Wealdstone during the current season, contributing three goals to the team's efforts. The club maintains an outside chance of securing a place in the play-offs, adding significance to squad decisions during this crucial period. Wealdstone's next fixture sees them facing Gateshead on Tuesday night, where they will need to perform without the services of the suspended midfielder.
The Baller League, where Hassan made his unauthorised appearance, has gained popularity as a unique football tournament blending sporting talent with celebrity and influencer participation. However, this incident highlights the contractual obligations professional players must honour with their primary clubs, regardless of other opportunities.
