Rangers Stumble as Title Challenge Suffers Major Blow
Danny Rohl has delivered a stark warning to his underperforming Rangers players, stating their opportunities to prove they belong at Ibrox are rapidly diminishing. The alert came after a dismal 0-0 draw at home to Falkirk, a result that saw the team booed from the pitch by their own supporters.
A Costly Stalemate at Ibrox
The match represented a golden chance to close the gap at the Scottish Premiership summit. With league leaders Hearts dropping points in a draw at Motherwell on Saturday, and Celtic securing a victory earlier in the day, Rangers needed a win. Instead, they produced a laboured and insipid display, failing to break down a resilient Falkirk side.
The result means Rangers remain nine points behind Hearts, albeit with a game in hand, and a further seven points adrift of rivals Celtic. This was a day where the much-vaunted attack, including Thelo Aasgaard and Bojan Miovski, once again failed to ignite, leaving the Ibrox crowd frustrated.
Rohl's Patience Wears Thin as Transfer Plans Take Shape
Despite a summer spend of over £20 million to revamp the squad, Rohl admitted that time is running out for some individuals to demonstrate they can handle the pressure of playing for Rangers. When questioned if his patience was wearing thin, the manager offered a telling response.
"I never lose patience," Rohl stated, "but the opportunities will be fewer, because, yeah, it's about form. Some players use it [the chance], some players can't use it." He highlighted the inconsistent nature of his team's performances, pointing to a pattern where players take a step forward in one game only to regress in the next.
Rohl confirmed he now has a clear picture of what recruitment is needed in the January transfer window, indicating that changes are imminent. He pinpointed decision-making and a lack of conviction as key issues, suggesting his players are "thinking too much" on the pitch.
Admitting it was a huge missed opportunity to make up ground, Rohl expressed his disappointment but refused to fault his players' effort. The aim of a fifth consecutive league win was miles away, with Falkirk deserving their point and solidifying their own position in the top six. For Rangers, the pressure is now firmly on with a crucial December period ahead.
