Peter Kay Calls Out Cat Deeley's Interview Habit on This Morning
Peter Kay calls out Cat Deeley on This Morning

Cat Deeley was left completely flustered during a live broadcast of ITV's This Morning after comedian Peter Kay hilariously called her out on a particular interview habit. The incident occurred as the pair, alongside co-host Ben Shephard, were discussing Kay's ongoing tour, Better Late Than Never.

The Charitable Moment That Took an Unexpected Turn

Peter Kay, 52, was explaining his decision to donate all profits from his extended tour to a dozen cancer charities. As he meticulously listed the organisations from a piece of paper, he began to chuckle. The comic paused his list, which included the Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, and Blood Cancer UK, to address Cat directly.

"I'm not laughing at bowel cancer," he clarified, "it's because she keeps saying, 'yeah'." The camera cut to a visibly embarrassed Cat Deeley, 49, who started to giggle and turned away from the camera. Co-host Ben Shephard, 50, quickly jumped to her defence, labelling the behaviour as "active listening" and confessing that his own wife does the same thing, adding "it drives me mad."

Viewers React to the On-Air Moment

The awkward yet light-hearted moment was an instant hit with viewers, who immediately took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their delight. Many celebrated that a guest had finally called Cat out for the conversational tic.

One viewer wrote, "At last someone has done it! Peter Kay calling out Cat Deeley on all her 'yep... yeah...aha...um' while someone is trying to talk!" Another added, "Not Peter Kay giving Cat a look to tell her to stop her 'yep, yeah, uh huh'. About time someone did!"

This is not the first time Cat Deeley's presenting style has drawn criticism. Last year, while standing in for Holly Willoughby, viewers voiced their frustration on social media, with one complaining she "never stops making a noise" and others criticising her for interrupting guests like chef John Torode.

Peter Kay's Major Charity Commitment

Beyond the on-air humour, the segment highlighted Peter Kay's significant philanthropic efforts. He confirmed that all the profits from his upcoming tour dates will be split among 12 cancer charities. The full list of beneficiaries is: Children with Cancer UK, Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, Blood Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer UK, DKMS UK, Ovarian Cancer Action, Pancreatic Cancer UK, Anthony Nolan, The Brain Tumour Charity, and Breast Cancer UK.

In other TV appearances, the Bolton-born star explained his motivation, stating, "Unfortunately everyone knows someone affected on that list and I hope people support it." He encouraged ticket sales, saying, "You don't even have to like me to come, it goes beyond that and it is about supporting these charities."

The tour will see Kay perform over 20 arena dates across cities including Newcastle, Glasgow, Dublin, Birmingham, Manchester, and London. Tickets for the new dates went on sale the Sunday following the announcement. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
