Tributes have been paid to a 14-year-old former Nottingham Forest academy goalkeeper who died after being struck by a train in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, on Wednesday night. Joshua Travis was hit by a train and died at the scene, British Transport Police (BTP) said.
His death is not being treated as suspicious, and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has launched a preliminary examination. In a statement, his family described him as “a lad with an incredible energy for life, an infectious and mischievous smile, kind sparkling eyes, and so much love to give.”
Nottingham Forest FC expressed deep sadness, saying: “Everyone at the club is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our former academy goalkeeper Josh Travis.” Aspire FC, where he also played, called him a “fantastic goalkeeper and a great character” and postponed all games this week.
Dozens of floral tributes were left at the scene, and the Chestnut Grove crossing has been closed for 21 days. Network Rail’s East Midlands route director Mark Budden said: “Our immediate thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragic incident.”
