In his first revealing interview since taking charge at Ibrox, Rangers manager Danny Rohl has made it crystal clear that he won't be following in anyone's tactical footsteps - least of all Russell Martin's.
The German tactician, who previously worked as assistant manager at Southampton under Martin, emphatically dismissed suggestions that he's a mere clone of his former colleague. "I'm my own man with my own ideas," Rohl declared with conviction.
Beyond Plan A: The Multi-Dimensional Approach
While Martin became known for his unwavering commitment to possession-based football during his time at Swansea and Southampton, Rohl insists his philosophy is far more adaptable.
"We have Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C," the Rangers boss revealed. "Football isn't about sticking to one style regardless of the situation. It's about having multiple solutions for different challenges."
Rohl emphasised that his coaching education in Germany, combined with experiences in England and Austria, has given him a diverse tactical toolkit that extends beyond any single philosophy.
Building His Own Legacy at Ibrox
The 34-year-old manager acknowledged learning valuable lessons during his time working with Martin but stressed that their approaches would differ significantly.
"Russell is an excellent coach with clear principles, but I have my own way of working," Rohl explained. "The Rangers job requires a unique approach tailored to this club's specific demands and the Scottish game."
Rohl's comments suggest Rangers fans can expect a more pragmatic and flexible tactical system than the possession-dominant style Martin implemented at his previous clubs.
