Patrick Mahomes Sparks Thanksgiving Fury With Ketchup on Turkey
Mahomes' Ketchup on Turkey Sparks Controversy

Quarterback's Condiment Choice Divides Football Fans

Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has ignited a fiery online debate this Thanksgiving after a new commercial showed him committing what many consider a culinary crime. In an advertisement for sportswear giant Adidas, Mahomes is seen dousing a turkey leg in ketchup, a move that has left fans both bemused and disgusted.

The Controversial Ad That Broke The Internet

The advert features Mahomes seated at a candle-lit table laden with classic Thanksgiving dishes. 'Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks, return home, see family, and meet new friends,' he reflects, before reaching for the ketchup bottle. As he squeezes the red condiment liberally over a turkey leg, he adds, 'Thanksgiving, is a time to eat.' This simple act proved far from simple for viewers.

Social media immediately erupted with reactions. One astonished fan asked, 'Did he put ketchup on that turkey leg???', while another declared a blunt 'Disgusting!'. The criticism was widespread, with a third commenter writing, 'Bro ketchup on the turkey? come on man,' and a fourth advising, 'Aye he gotta chill on the ketchup.' The controversy even spilled over into predictions for the Chiefs' upcoming game, with one user joking, 'Just by him doing that, the Chiefs will lose.'

A Lifelong Love Affair With Ketchup

This is not the first time Mahomes' passion for ketchup has made headlines. His fondness for the tomato-based sauce is well-documented. Back in 2018, he became an ambassador for Hunt's Tomatoes and Ketchup shortly after revealing he adds it to contentious foods like steak and macaroni and cheese.

Perhaps even more startling was his childhood confession. Mahomes has previously admitted to eating ketchup sandwiches as a kid. Defending his unconventional palate, he once said, 'People seem to think that's a weird thing. Some people think that's disgusting, but it's good to me.'

Despite the backlash, the quarterback did find some support online. One fan came to his defence, stating, 'I also put ketchup on everything. Lol Must be an east Texas thing.' Another supporter celebrated the move, posting, 'The Return of the Ketchup. lol love it PM! Go Chiefs!'

The commercial arrives as Mahomes and the Chiefs prepare for a crucial Thanksgiving showdown with the Dallas Cowboys, fresh from securing their first victory in three games against the Indianapolis Colts last weekend. Whether his ketchup habits will affect his on-field performance remains to be seen, but they have certainly given fans plenty to talk about over the holiday.
