Dean Rowland, the former fiancé of The Only Way Is Essex star Harry Derbidge, has confirmed the tragic death of his own fiancé, Steven Hewitt. The 35-year-old shared the heartbreaking news on social media, posting photographs of the couple together.
A Heartbreaking Social Media Tribute
In an emotional public tribute on Facebook, Dean Rowland expressed his profound grief. He wrote: 'The world didn't deserve you, the best of the best, you'll forever be my one true love, I love you so much. I can't believe I've got to go on without you.' The post was quickly flooded with messages of condolence from friends and followers, offering love and strength during what was described as a 'horrendous time'.
The couple's love story began around eight years ago after they were introduced by a mutual best friend. Their relationship evolved from friendship to a long-distance romance, with Dean making the move from Essex to Scotland to be with Steven. They had been together for three and a half years before getting engaged.
Fundraiser to Bring Steven Home to Scotland
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe page has been established to support Steven's family with the significant costs of bringing him home to Scotland for his burial. At the time of writing, the campaign had raised an impressive £16,000. The fundraising appeal states the goal is to lay Steven to rest 'with the dignity, peace, and love he so freely gave in life' on Scottish soil, the place he called home.
Dean and Steven got engaged just last year in a romantic surprise at the five-star Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. Dean later described the proposal as 'the biggest surprise', meticulously planned by Steven without his knowledge. In January of last year, Dean had shared his joy online, writing: 'I said YES! Completely overwhelmed and filled with joy... Here's to forever and a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventures together.'
Past Relationship with TOWIE Star Harry Derbidge
Dean Rowland was previously engaged to TOWIE personality Harry Derbidge, with their relationship ending in 2021 after four years. Speaking about the split on the show, Harry described it as 'the most heartbreaking... awful thing'. Following the breakup, Dean posted a statement emphasising their continued mutual respect, calling Harry his 'best friend' and someone he would 'trust with my life'.
The couple had recently been searching for their perfect wedding venue and were in the process of renovating their home together. The sudden loss of Steven Hewitt has left family, friends, and the wider community in mourning, rallying to provide both emotional and financial support during this devastating period.
