Liverpool manager Arne Slot has publicly committed to fighting on as he attempts to reverse the club's disastrous run of form, which has seen the team lose nine of their last twelve matches.
A Run of Historic Proportions
The Reds are enduring their worst spell in decades, with a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest followed by a 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in midweek. This dismal sequence means Liverpool have lost three consecutive games by three or more goals for the first time in 71 years.
Slot acknowledged the intense scrutiny on his position but remained defiant. "We fight on, we try to improve," Slot stated. "It is about doing what this club is about, it is keeping fighting and no matter how difficult it is we have to fight together."
Slot's Defence of His Squad
Despite the humiliating scorelines, the Dutch manager defended his players' commitment, arguing that their fighting spirit only wavered in the final minutes of recent fixtures. He pointed to the team's running stats and their ability to create chances after going behind as evidence of their continued effort.
"In the first 85 minutes, or for large parts of the game, I saw a team that have had a lot of setbacks recently and were still able to fight against that," he explained. "I see a team that never gives up." However, Slot conceded that fight alone is not enough to win football matches, admitting the team lacks the necessary quality in one-on-one situations and final-third execution at the moment.
Team News for West Ham Clash
Looking ahead to Sunday's crucial Premier League fixture against West Ham, Slot provided an update on key players. He expects goalkeeper Alisson to return after missing the PSV game through illness.
The status of Florian Wirtz remains uncertain; the £100m signing will have a final day of rehab, with a decision on his availability to be made after a potential Saturday training session. Striker Hugo Ekitike, who was substituted against PSV with a back spasm, could also be in contention, with the issue not expected to be serious.
