Joao Gomes breaks silence on Man Utd links as Wolves fight relegation
Joao Gomes addresses Man Utd transfer rumours

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes has publicly addressed the ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United, reaffirming his immediate commitment to the club's battle against Premier League relegation.

Gomes' Focus on Wolves' Survival Fight

The Brazilian international, who has been a standout performer in a difficult season for the Black Country side, has made 23 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign. His consistent displays have reportedly attracted attention from suitors including Manchester United and Italian giants Napoli.

However, speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, the 24-year-old was clear about his current priorities. "We are working very hard every day to get Wolves out of this situation," Gomes stated. "The season ends in May and there is still a long way to go. We ask the fans to keep believing in us because we are very committed to changing the situation the team is in."

Affection for the Club and Its Supporters

Gomes, who joined Wolves from Flamengo in January 2023 and has since made 112 appearances, expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received. His current contract at Molineux runs for another three-and-a-half years.

"I can only thank everyone who has always trusted me and given me the chance to step onto the pitch to represent Wolves," he said. "The affection from the fans is incredible, and I really want to give that back. I will give my life on the pitch so the team can finish the season safe from relegation."

Wolves' Recent Upturn in Form

The midfielder's comments come as Wolves show signs of improvement under manager Rob Edwards. The team is currently on a four-match unbeaten run across all competitions, which includes:

  • A creditable draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
  • A first Premier League win of the season, a 3-0 victory over West Ham United.
  • Another draw against Everton.
  • A comprehensive 6-1 win against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round.

Gomes believes this improved form is no accident. "Even before we started this unbeaten run, we were already playing well," he explained. "We conceded a goal in stoppage time against Arsenal in London after a great performance. We knew it was a matter of making adjustments. These four matches without defeat are not a coincidence."

The Premier League Dream

Despite his commitment, Gomes' words also hinted at a desire to remain in the top flight, a factor that could influence his future should Wolves be relegated. He described playing in the Premier League as "another dream come true," adding, "The Premier League is the biggest national league in the world. Everything here is sensational, from the level of the games to the atmosphere in the stands."

This subtle admission will likely fuel further speculation that a move away from Molineux could materialise if the club cannot secure its Premier League status. For now, however, Joao Gomes' message is one of total dedication to the Wolves cause as they fight to avoid the drop.
