Nicolas Jackson's Bayern Munich transfer clause set to fail
Jackson's Bayern transfer clause likely to fail

Nicolas Jackson's proposed permanent transfer from Chelsea to Bayern Munich appears increasingly unlikely to be triggered as the striker falls significantly behind the required appearance targets.

The problematic loan agreement

The 24-year-old forward joined the German champions on loan last summer for £14.2 million, with Bayern obligated to make the move permanent for £56.2 million if he started 40 matches this season. However, Jackson has only managed five starts to date, making the clause virtually impossible to activate.

Chelsea attempted to cancel the loan agreement following Liam Delap's injury, but Jackson refused to return to London while his agent and Bayern worked desperately to convince the Blues to honour the original arrangement.

The mathematics of failure

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness revealed earlier this season that Jackson needed to start 40 matches to trigger the mandatory purchase. With only five starts achieved so far, the numbers simply don't add up for the Senegalese international.

Bayern have a maximum of 23 Bundesliga matches and 12 Champions League games remaining. Even if Jackson started every single one, he would only reach 40 appearances - but the African Cup of Nations presents an unavoidable complication.

International duty complications

Although Senegal hasn't yet announced their squad for the tournament, Jackson is expected to be among the first names selected by coach Pape Thiaw. Senegal's first match is scheduled for December 23rd against Botswana, while Bayern's final match before the German winter break falls on December 21st.

Players participating in the African Cup of Nations must be released early, meaning Jackson will miss at least one additional Bayern match. Furthermore, Bayern return to action on January 11th, while Senegal's tournament could run until January 18th if they reach the final.

The perfect scenario would also require Bayern to play two extra Champions League matches if they finish between ninth and twenty-fourth position and enter a play-off round. Although Vincent Kompany's side have won four of their five matches and currently sit third in the table, the combination of factors makes Jackson's required 40 starts mathematically improbable.

Agent remains optimistic despite setbacks

Jackson's advisor, former Portsmouth, West Brom and Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara, appears unconcerned about the specific conditions. In an interview with Canal+ Sport's Talents D'Afrique, Kamara dismissed suggestions that Jackson would return to Chelsea.

'Not at all. Of course not,' Kamara stated when asked if he saw Jackson returning to Stamford Bridge. 'Today at Chelsea, the relationship with (Enzo) Maresca isn't necessarily the best.'

Regarding Hoeness's comments about the 40-start requirement, Kamara described it as 'a war of egos between the two clubs' and suggested the Bayern president had since retracted his statements.

'Nico's objective isn't to play 40 matches,' Kamara argued. 'If he scores 15 goals by December, they won't say he needs to play 40 matches.'

Jackson has scored four goals for Bayern this season under manager Vincent Kompany, but his limited starting opportunities and impending international commitments have effectively doomed the permanent transfer clause. The striker now appears certain to return to Chelsea next summer, though his representatives remain hopeful that Bayern might still pursue a permanent deal through alternative arrangements.
