Damian Bozinovski Recovers After On-Pitch Heart Scare

Young footballer Damian Bozinovski is on the road to recovery after a frightening heart scare saw him rushed to hospital during a competitive match. The 20-year-old defender, formerly of Melbourne Victory's Academy, collapsed on the pitch while playing for Preston Lions in the NPL Victoria competition.

Match Halted as Medical Emergency Unfolds

The incident occurred late in the second half of the clash against Oakleigh Cannons on February 15 at Jack Edwards Reserve. Bozinovski was seen clutching his chest before falling to his knees, prompting immediate concern from teammates and officials.

Club physios rushed to his aid as the match was halted for approximately twenty minutes. An ambulance was called to the scene, with medical professionals transporting the young player to hospital for urgent assessment and treatment.

Club Confirms Positive Recovery Outlook

Preston Lions released an official statement via social media confirming Bozinovski's improving condition. "The club can confirm Damian Bozinovski is in great care with his beautiful family and is expected to make a solid recovery," the statement read.

"Damian and the family thank everyone for their well-wishes. We would also like to thank the Oakleigh Cannons for their help and support during the incident."

Teammates and Coach Express Support

During the match livestream, Bozinovski's teammates could be heard informing supporters that the problem involved his heart. His coach Zoran Markovski emphasized that football took a backseat to the player's wellbeing.

"Football aside, my main concern is Damian Boz," Markovski stated. "Hopefully the kid is OK and from everyone at the club – the players, the coaching staff, the sponsors – we just hope he recovers quickly."

Promising Career Temporarily Interrupted

The heart scare came during Bozinovski's debut appearance for Preston Lions, following his move from Melbourne Victory's Academy squad where he served as captain last year. The defender had also featured in A-League pre-season friendlies, including a notable match against Wrexham A.F.C.

Damian is the younger brother of Preston Lions teammate Matthew Bozinovski, adding a personal dimension to the club's concern for his welfare.

Inspiring Response from Teammates

In a remarkable display of resilience, Preston Lions responded to the terrifying incident by scoring two goals within six minutes, securing a 3-1 victory over Oakleigh Cannons. The team's performance demonstrated both professional focus and emotional solidarity with their fallen teammate.

Bozinovski is now recuperating at home with family support, with medical professionals monitoring his progress toward what is expected to be a complete recovery.
