Jorge Jesus is set to leave Al-Nassr when his contract expires next month, according to a report that emerged hours before the club could be crowned Saudi Pro League champions. The 71-year-old Portuguese manager has no intention of opening negotiations over a new deal, with ESPN claiming he has already decided to depart Riyadh.
Jesus is hoping to go out on a high by securing the league title. Al-Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, currently sit five points clear at the top of the table with one match remaining. However, title rivals Al-Hilal still have a game in hand, at home to Neom on Saturday evening. If Al-Hilal fail to win, Al-Nassr will be confirmed as champions, handing Jesus his first league title with the club.
The former Benfica manager is said to want the Portugal national team job as his next role. That vacancy would only arise if current boss Roberto Martinez departs after the World Cup, a possibility that has been rumoured. Jesus, who took over at Al-Nassr last summer, is reportedly targeting Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, which Portugal are co-hosting. He previously won the Saudi title with Al-Hilal in 2024.
Al-Nassr came within seconds of clinching the title on Tuesday before conceding a late equaliser in a dramatic 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal. A long throw into the box deep in stoppage time caused confusion, with goalkeeper Bento colliding with defender Inigo Martinez and spilling the ball into the net. Ronaldo, watching from the bench, looked devastated. Later, he wrote on Instagram: 'The dream is close. Heads up, we have one more step to take! Thank you all for the amazing support tonight!'
