Supreme Novices' Hurdle (1:30) – The Festival Begins
The action explodes into life with the traditional curtain-raiser. While the Irish raider Tullyhill is all the rage with favourite backers, Newsboy is siding with value. His each-way selection is the Nicky Henderson-trained Jeriko Du Reponet. Despite a less-than-perfect last outing, the talent this five-year-old has previously shown could see him outrun his enticing odds.
Arkle Challenge Trophy (2:10) – A Clash of the Titans
This year's Arkle promises a spectacular duel. The formidable Found A Fifty, a gallant runner-up in the Irish Arkle, is tipped to go one better here. Newsboy believes his consistency and battling spirit make him the one to beat. However, he warns to keep a close eye on the talented but occasionally wayward Il Etait Temps, who could spoil the party if he puts it all together.
The Unmissable NAP of the Day
For his best bet of the day, Newsboy looks to the Ultima Handicap Chase (2:50). His NAP is the progressive Chianti Classico. This seven-year-old has been in superb form, winning his last three starts, and appears to be thriving. Newsboy is confident he has the class to overcome a rise in the weights and land the festival's first big handicap.
Feature Race: The Champion Hurdle (3:30)
All eyes will be on the reigning champion, Constitution Hill, as he aims to defend his crown. The superstar has been nothing short of breathtaking in his career and is the deserved short-price favourite to win again. Newsboy's analysis confirms the obvious: he is the most likely winner. The real battle, he suggests, is for the minor placings.
State Man is a top-class operator in his own right and is expected to fill the runner-up spot once more, while the veteran Lossiemouth, dropping back in trip, could be the value for third.
