PM Starmer Urges Prince Andrew to Testify in Epstein Probe
Starmer: Prince Andrew Should Testify in Epstein Case

Prime Minister Breaks Silence on Royal Controversy

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has intensified pressure on the former Prince Andrew to provide evidence to American investigators examining the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Speaking during his travels to the G20 summit in Johannesburg, Starmer articulated a clear position that individuals with relevant information should cooperate with official inquiries.

The Prime Minister carefully avoided commenting directly on the Duke of York's specific situation but established a significant general principle that could have substantial implications for the disgraced royal. "I don't comment on his particular case," Starmer told accompanying journalists, before adding his crucial qualification: "But as a general principle I've held for a very long time is that anybody who has got relevant information in relation to these kind of cases should give that evidence to those that need it."

Mounting Pressure from Across the Atlantic

The former prince, now known legally as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has thus far declined to respond to a formal request from members of the House Oversight Committee for a transcribed interview about his long-standing friendship with Epstein. This refusal comes despite increasing international attention on the case and growing demands for accountability.

Democratic representatives Robert Garcia of California and Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia have been particularly vocal in their criticism of Andrew's position. In a strongly-worded statement released recently, they accused the former royal of "continuing to hide" from serious questions about his associations.

The congressmen emphasised that their investigation would proceed regardless of Andrew's cooperation, declaring: "Our work will move forward with or without him, and we will hold anyone who was involved in these crimes accountable, no matter their wealth, status or political party. We will get justice for the survivors."

Royal Fallout and Ongoing Consequences

This development represents the latest chapter in the ongoing controversy surrounding Andrew's connections to the convicted sex offender. Last month witnessed significant royal repercussions when Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and honours as the monarchy sought to distance itself from the growing criticism.

The timing of Starmer's comments, made during an international summit, underscores the global nature of the Epstein investigation and its continuing political ramifications. The Prime Minister's carefully measured words nevertheless carry considerable weight, establishing an expectation of cooperation that now extends to the highest levels of British government.

As the US congressional committee continues its work, all eyes remain on whether the former prince will reconsider his position or maintain his current stance of non-cooperation amid increasing pressure from both sides of the Atlantic.
