Police in Missouri are actively hunting for a suspect accused of a brazen candy theft just days before Halloween last year. According to authorities, Clifton L. Davis, a 50-year-old resident of St. Louis County, allegedly stole thousands of Snickers bars from a Sam's Club store in St. Charles.
Details of the Alleged Theft
The incident occurred on October 29, 2025, when Davis is said to have entered the Sam's Club, filled a shopping cart with 50 boxes of Snickers bars and two jugs of laundry detergent, and left without paying. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at more than $2,600.
Store surveillance footage reportedly captured the suspect loading the candy into the back of a black Lincoln Navigator before driving away from the scene. Investigators used this footage to identify Davis as the primary suspect in the case.
Criminal History and Charges
Davis was charged last week with felony stealing in connection with the theft. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and he is currently not in custody. Court records reveal that Davis has an extensive criminal history, described by officials as "a multi-state stealing offender with numerous arrests and convictions dating back to 1992."
His past convictions include thefts from various stores across the St. Louis region since 2023, such as Walmart in Wentzville, a Schnuck Market grocery store in O'Fallon, a Home Depot in Bridgeton, and a Menards in St. Ann. He also has a conviction for theft from an unnamed store in Kirkwood.
Store employees told police they believed they recognized Davis from previous attempts to steal merchandise from the Sam's Club. This latest incident, involving the Snickers bars, would constitute Davis's largest monetary theft to date, according to authorities.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on the case, highlighting the timing just before Halloween, when candy demand is typically high. Police continue their search for Davis, urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation proceeds.
