Seth Rogen's Bafta Joke About Celia Imrie Sparks Debate

At the 2026 Bafta TV Awards, Hollywood star Seth Rogen caused a stir with a joke about actress Celia Imrie, referencing her infamous fart on the reality show Celebrity Traitors. Accepting the International prize for The Studio, Rogen pointed to Imrie in the audience and said: 'I assume this woman in the green dress is a very skilled and talented woman. All I know is that she farted on a reality show. I’m interested in your other work now, obviously – what else have you done?'

The remark drew laughter from the audience, but online critics called for Rogen to apologise, accusing him of disrespecting the veteran actress. However, a journalist who spoke to Imrie after the ceremony reported that she appeared unoffended, smiling and chatting easily about the incident. Imrie herself brought up Rogen's comment, noting he didn't know who she was, but seemed at ease.

Imrie, known for roles in Bridget Jones, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Absolutely Fabulous, became a viral sensation six months ago when she admitted to farting during a Celebrity Traitors challenge. The moment was widely celebrated as British TV gold, and the Baftas featured several other jokes about it from hosts Alan Carr and Nick Mohammed.

While some viewers felt Rogen's joke was rude, the journalist argued that his ignorance of Imrie's career was genuine and not malicious, and that the actress took it in stride. The Bafta TV Awards aired on BBC iPlayer.
