Reality TV Stars Demand Crime Crackdown After Terrifying LA Road Rage Attack

A high-profile reality TV star couple is urgently calling for a significant crackdown on crime in Los Angeles, following a harrowing road rage attack that they say left them genuinely fearing for their lives. Celebrity couturier Pol Atteu and his husband Patrik Simpson, well-known figures in Hollywood's social scene, were targeted in a violent incident that has sparked outrage and concern.

The Violent Confrontation in West Hollywood

The terrifying episode unfolded at the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Vine Street in West Hollywood on a recent Sunday. According to the couple, a man driving a Toyota 4Runner abruptly cut off their Mercedes, leading to a frightening confrontation. The unidentified assailant then exited his vehicle and launched a physical attack on their car.

"I thought he was gonna kill us. I thought I was going to die," Atteu recounted in an emotional interview with the Daily Mail. Simpson added, "We were literally like trapped rats. And then he came running towards the car and I saw my life flash before my eyes." The couple, who star in their own Amazon Prime reality series, locked themselves inside their luxury vehicle as the man punched the driver's side window and kicked the door repeatedly.

Simpson expressed grave concern about the potential outcome, stating, "I think if he had broken that window then we would not be here today." The attacker eventually returned to his Toyota and sped away, prompting the couple to follow at a distance while immediately calling 911 to report the incident.

Frustration with Police Response and Procedures

The couple's distress was compounded by what they describe as an inadequate and frustrating response from law enforcement. During their 911 call, the dispatcher shocked Atteu by instructing them to stop pursuing the driver, warning that they could be held liable for any damages resulting from their pursuit.

"It was like they were trying to turn it around and say that we were in the wrong for following the guy," Simpson explained. "All we were trying to do get the license plate, because if I did not have the license plate number we would not be able to do anything and we want to catch this man and prosecute him."

After pulling over, the couple pleaded with the dispatcher to send a police officer to inspect the damage to their Mercedes. When an officer eventually arrived, they claim they were simply told to file a report online rather than receiving immediate, in-person assistance.

Atteu expressed bewilderment at this procedural approach, saying, "You'd think they would want to take my name down, my information down, like different things that have to do with us so that they can find a way to get back to us." Simpson reinforced this sentiment, noting, "The fact is, if I'm being accosted or whatever this is that happened, whatever the right legal term is, the police weren't offering us any help."

Taking Matters Into Their Own Hands

The couple ultimately filed a vandalism report, which has been verified by the Daily Mail. However, dissatisfied with the official response, they have taken proactive steps by sharing video footage of the incident on social media, where they boast over 320,000 followers.

"I think in this day and age you have to be your own champion," Simpson asserted. "I'm not saying that you take justice into your own hands, but you have to seek accountability." This incident is not their first encounter with crime in California, adding to their growing concerns about public safety.

A Pattern of Criminal Experiences in Los Angeles

In 2019, Atteu was hospitalized after being viciously attacked during a charity fashion show at St. John’s Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. The assailant, Jesus Rodolfo Zepeda, was upset that his daughter had not been selected to participate in the show. Although apprehended shortly after the incident, Zepeda was released due to Covid-related jail constraints and wasn't sentenced until 2024.

He received a suspended sentence of five years in prison, spending just four days in county jail with credit for time already served. Simpson revealed that the couple fought to have the court acknowledge the attack as a hate crime, which they eventually succeeded in doing after persistent efforts.

"In the case of Pol's incident, when he was beaten up at the fashion show backstage, it was a homophobic hate crime and they didn't even want to prosecute the man as a homophobic hate crime," Simpson explained. "And we pushed and pushed and pushed and they finally did prosecute him and he was convicted."

The couple also disclosed that their home was broken into a few years ago, with thieves not only stealing their jewelry but also taking Simpson's mother's ashes. These cumulative experiences have led them to believe that crime in Los Angeles is worsening, with criminals feeling increasingly emboldened by a perceived lack of accountability.

Growing Concerns About Los Angeles Crime Trends

"I've been living in Los Angeles my whole life and it's become so much more dangerous," Atteu stated. "I think people feel that they have permission to be able to just be unkind and uncouth, because they figure the police aren't gonna show up, nobody's gonna do anything, so who cares?"

Simpson echoed these concerns with a vivid comparison: "I feel like we're living in the wild, wild west. The landscape has changed. People are living in a sense of desperation and they don't care what or who they hurt because there's no repercussions for them."

The couple further claim that many of their wealthy friends have also been targeted by criminals in recent years, indicating a broader pattern. "Half our friends have been broken into," said Atteu, citing a specific example of a friend in Bel Air whose home was invaded, with thieves stealing Hermès Birkin bags and jewelry before fleeing.

Determination to Continue Advocacy and Public Life

Despite these traumatic experiences, the couple—who star in the Amazon Prime reality series Gown and Out in Beverly Hills—remain determined not to let fear dictate their lives. "We're not gonna stop living our life in the public or stop living our life the way we live it," Simpson affirmed.

However, they are committed to using their platform to highlight pressing issues. "But if we can bring attention to the issues that are happening with this road rage incident and other incidents here, then we're doing the right thing," Simpson concluded, emphasizing their call for greater accountability and improved public safety measures in Los Angeles.
