Former Rugby League Star Chris Walker Detained in Gold Coast Domestic Violence Investigation
Former NRL and State of Origin winger Chris Walker has reportedly been taken into police custody on the Gold Coast as officers investigate an alleged domestic violence incident. The 46-year-old former rugby league star was arrested on Saturday night after police attended a property in Currumbin Waters.
Police Statement on the Arrest
A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed the details, stating: 'A man was arrested in Currumbin Waters last night 14 March in relation to domestic violence offences.' Police attended a Whitsunday Drive address after receiving information that a man wanted for alleged domestic violence offences was hiding in a back yard.
Officers located and arrested the 46-year-old Currumbin Waters man who is currently assisting police with inquiries. No charges had been laid at the time of reporting and the investigation remains ongoing.
Chris Walker's Rugby League Career
Chris Walker, who was born in Brisbane, enjoyed a long rugby league career that spanned more than a decade and saw him play for several NRL clubs. His professional journey included stints with the Brisbane Broncos, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters, Melbourne Storm, Gold Coast Titans and Parramatta Eels.
Across his professional career he played 163 top-level matches and scored an impressive 87 tries. The winger also represented Queensland in State of Origin, scoring four tries across six appearances between 2001 and 2002.
Career Highlights and Later Years
Walker made his NRL debut for the Broncos in 1999 and finished as the club's top try-scorer in 2002 alongside teammates Lote Tuqiri and Darren Lockyer. During his career he also spent time overseas with French Super League side Catalans Dragons before returning to the NRL with Parramatta in 2011.
Walker later continued playing in the Queensland Cup with the Ipswich Jets under the coaching of his brothers Ben and Shane Walker. The 46-year-old was taken into police custody on Saturday night, with no charges having been laid at this time as the investigation continues.
