Rita Ora Reveals Egg Freezing Decisions and Fitness Transformation

In a candid interview with Women's Health UK, global pop star Rita Ora has opened up about two significant personal health decisions: freezing her eggs in her twenties and overhauling her fitness regime after turning thirty.

A Proactive Approach to Future Family Planning

The 35-year-old singer disclosed that she underwent egg preservation procedures at ages 24 and 27, following medical advice. "A doctor told me it was a really good time to preserve the best quality," Ora recalled, describing this guidance as "the best advice."

She explained her perspective, noting that many of her friends in their mid-thirties are now "really trying to figure it out" regarding fertility. Ora, who has previously expressed a desire for a large family, views this as preparation for future expansion when the time is right.

The Turning Point: Recognizing Declining Strength

Ora's fitness journey began when she noticed a concerning change as she entered her thirties. "Something just goes. It literally happens overnight," she observed, describing how her consistency during performances started to wane. "I noticed that my consistency on stage was starting to get weaker and I just was thinking, 'Oh, that's weird.'"

This realization prompted a significant shift in her approach to physical health. "I realised I needed to start treating my body like I'm a kind of athlete," she stated, leading her to delve deeply into research about fitness and strength training.

Embracing Weight Training and a New Mindset

The singer, who achieved her first UK number one single in 2013 and has amassed 13 top ten hits, detailed her transition to serious weight training. She moved beyond light weights of 1kg to 3kg, embracing heavier lifting to build genuine strength.

"Then I realised, 'Oh, I actually want to get strong.' And be able to bend down and pick up a pencil and my knees be okay," Ora explained, emphasizing that her motivation extends beyond appearance.

"I don't want people to get confused with [my health journey] being about me being obsessed with my physical appearance, because I think sometimes that line gets very blurred," she clarified. "It's all to do with how I feel."

Life as a Stepmother and Future Plans

Married to director and actor Taika Waititi since 2022, Ora has embraced her role as stepmother to his two daughters. "I've loved every second – the girls are just a dream. I think I got very lucky," she shared, describing activities like doing nails and shopping together.

When asked about preparation for parenthood, she admitted, "I don't know if anything really prepares you, you just have to figure it out in the moment."

Her friend Davina McCall has been encouraging about family expansion, with Ora noting, "Davina is always like, 'Hurry up – you can do it!'"

A Holistic Health Philosophy

Reflecting on her twenties, Ora expressed no regrets about her previous lifestyle. "I had the best twenties. My life changed in my twenties. My career really started to kick off and I was enjoying every second," she said.

Her current health focus originated from practical needs during touring. "It all started from me just trying to not get sick on tour, so I could put on the best show," she revealed, acknowledging that she previously lacked a structured routine.

Through egg preservation and her transformed fitness approach, Rita Ora demonstrates a proactive, thoughtful approach to health and family planning that balances career demands with personal wellbeing.
