Dave Grohl's Intensive Therapy Journey Following Personal Turmoil
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has made a candid revelation about his mental health, disclosing that he has been attending therapy sessions six days a week for an extensive period of 70 weeks. This intensive regimen comes in the wake of a deeply personal scandal that rocked his family life and public image.
The Scandal That Prompted Change
In 2024, the legendary rock musician publicly acknowledged that he had fathered a child outside his marriage to wife Jordyn Blum. In a social media statement at the time, Grohl expressed his commitment to doing "everything" possible to "regain the trust" of his wife and their three daughters: Violet, Harper, and Ophelia.
The 57-year-old musician has now opened up about how this personal crisis spurred him to seek professional help. "I've been in therapy six days a week for 70 weeks," Grohl revealed in a recent interview. He added that he had calculated this amounted to "over 430 sessions" of therapeutic work.
Multiple Factors Behind the Decision
When questioned specifically about whether his infidelity had driven him to therapy, Grohl indicated there were "so many" contributing factors that led to his decision. Speaking to The Guardian, he explained that while songwriting sometimes provided an outlet for his emotions, he felt the need for deeper, more sustained conversations about his life experiences.
"I have to be perfectly honest," Grohl stated. "Writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough. As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem."
The Ongoing Process of Self-Reevaluation
The musician described therapy as "an ongoing process" that has helped him change his outlook on life after finding himself pulled in "different directions." Following his admission about cheating on his wife, Grohl said he had to "turn everything off," including concerns about public perception and external judgments.
In his original 2024 statement, Grohl had expressed: "I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness."
Band Concerns and Personal History
The scandal reportedly had professional repercussions as well, with claims that a potential Foo Fighters tour scheduled for the following year was shelved. Bandmate Nate Mendel expressed concern about the controversy damaging the group's reputation, stating he was "of course" worried about this possibility.
This is not the first time infidelity has affected Grohl's relationships. The musician was previously married to photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood from 1994 to 1997, and reports indicate he eventually admitted to cheating on her as well. In 1999, reflecting on that divorce, Grohl said: "I was 25, my wife was even younger. We weren't ready to get married... It would have been better had we not got married. But you live and you learn."
Grohl has been married to model and television producer Jordyn Blum since 2003. Representatives for the musician previously dismissed a viral social media post by a woman claiming to be the mother of the child born outside his marriage, maintaining privacy around the situation while Grohl continues his therapeutic journey toward personal growth and family reconciliation.
