Louise Thompson's Father Gives Blunt Verdict on Iconic Made In Chelsea Bridge Scene

Mike Thompson, the father of former Made In Chelsea star Louise Thompson, has offered his unfiltered reaction to one of the most infamous moments in the show's history. The scene, which aired in 2013, depicted Spencer Matthews brutally dumping Louise on Putney Bridge after his infidelities were exposed.

The Explosive Bridge Confrontation

During the heated exchange, Spencer, now 37, told Louise, now 35: 'It's very hard to respect you when you allow me to cheat on you!' The confrontation became legendary among MIC fans for its raw intensity and dramatic setting. Spencer has since expressed deep regret about the incident, describing their relationship as 'toxic' and admitting he was a heavy drinker at the time.

Mike Thompson's Surprising Perspective

Appearing on Louise's He Said She Said podcast this week, Mike watched the clip with his daughter and her fiancé, Ryan Libbey. After viewing, Louise remarked: 'It's actually a bit savage isn't it!' To everyone's surprise, Mike responded: 'Not really...' prompting Ryan to exclaim: 'What!'

Mike elaborated: 'It looks terribly staged, it doesn't seem spur of the moment in real life. It looks filmed which is what it is...' He suggested that as a parent, he found it uncomfortable viewing personal struggles played out publicly.

When Louise mentioned her 'tears Thompson' nickname from frequently crying on the show, Mike humorously advised her to 'toughen up'. He contrasted their experiences by noting: 'I got more of the Spanish archer el bow with girls in my teenage years than you could throw a cat at and I didn't expect my kids to be worrying about me.'

Spencer Matthews' Regrets and Revelations

In 2023, Spencer revealed on Elizabeth Day's How To Fail podcast that the bridge breakup wasn't entirely authentic. He explained they had actually split privately the night before, with producers instructing them to meet the next day. 'So I had actually broken up with Louise the night before and I told her about the next scene and she came in steaming hot breaking up with me instead,' he recalled.

Spencer expressed embarrassment about his behavior: 'I feel embarrassed about it. But had I not told her the night before it would have been different... So it was not real.' He also shared broader regrets about his reality TV persona: 'I hate being known as Spencer from Made In Chelsea I hate it. I am ashamed and embarrassed at some of my actions.'

Legacy and Aftermath

Spencer and Louise's on-off relationship spanned several early MIC seasons before their final split in 2013. Their acrimonious breakup followed Spencer's multiple infidelities, including sleeping with another woman in Louise's own bed. Post-breakup, Louise briefly dated co-star Andy Jordan, while Spencer entered another tumultuous relationship with Lucy Watson.

Both have since moved on significantly. Spencer married Irish TV presenter Vogue Williams, with whom he shares three children: Otto, Theodore, and Gigi. Louise is engaged to personal trainer Ryan Libbey, and they welcomed their son Leo in 2021.

Spencer left Made In Chelsea in 2015 after five years, citing the show's increasingly produced nature: 'Nobody lives dramatic lives in the way we were told to portray drama... I look black on it and became very produced.' He secured a place on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here shortly after departing.
