The controversy erupted after the prestigious Kennedy Centre Honours, an annual ceremony celebrating lifetime contributions to American culture, was accused of airbrushing the Trump administration and its supporters from its history.

Grenell's fury was directed at a segment produced by Couric for the event. He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage, stating that the production deliberately ignored the cultural impact and contributions of figures associated with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement and the 45th President himself.
"The petty and fake Kennedy Center Honors produced by Katie Couric purposely left out President Trump and all of the MAGA supporters who were recognized," Grenell wrote. His post suggested that the omission was not an oversight but a calculated move to rewrite a cultural narrative, aligning with a specific political viewpoint.
