UK Braces for Widespread Snowfall as 40 Cities Face Weekend Onslaught
Britain is preparing for a significant return of wintry weather, with fresh forecasts predicting snowfall across 40 cities nationwide in just days. New weather maps from WXCHARTS, utilising MetDesk data, indicate that up to 14 centimetres of snow could blanket extensive areas of the UK, beginning this Sunday.
Scotland to Bear the Brunt of Heavy Snow Accumulation
The snowfall is expected to sweep from Cape Wrath in northern Scotland down to Bristol in the South West. Scotland will experience the most severe conditions, with regions such as Moray and the Highlands potentially receiving up to 14 centimetres of snow. Neighbouring areas could see accumulations of up to 12 centimetres, posing challenges for travel and infrastructure.
In contrast, England is forecast to escape more lightly this weekend, with an average of just 2 centimetres of snow nationwide. This means much of the eastern and southern coastlines are likely to be spared the heaviest impacts, though residents should remain vigilant for localised disruptions.
Met Office Issues Forecast for Extended Period
The Met Office has provided its outlook for February 15 to 24, stating: "Showers or longer spells of rain are expected as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, probably focussed on western hills, with some snow at times in the north, mainly on high ground. Strong winds are possible at times, especially around coasts."
The forecast continues: "Temperatures will probably be near normal. Later in the period, there is a chance that drier, more settled conditions may begin to develop." This suggests that while the immediate weekend brings snow risks, conditions may stabilise as the month progresses.
