UK Braces for 30C Heat Surge: 16 Counties to Hit 28C

Weather forecasting models indicate that temperatures across the UK could soon climb back to 30C in some regions, following last week's intense heatwave that saw mercury levels reach 35C. After a brief respite with temperatures dropping to seasonal averages, a new surge of warmth is anticipated as early as June 11.

Current Conditions and Forecast

The Met Office reports that temperatures this week will peak between 19C and 22C nationwide. However, Tuesday may bring thunder and heavy showers, disrupting the relatively calm conditions. Despite this, the GFS weather model suggests a rapid return to higher temperatures, with 30C expected in the south-east, particularly around London, by 6pm on June 11.

Detailed Temperature Predictions

Similar highs are projected for June 15, with the south-east again experiencing 30C, and 28C potentially reaching as far north as Yorkshire. On June 16, the south-east may see another 30C peak, with mid-to-high 20s across much of the UK. Temperature anomaly maps show deep red across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, indicating significantly above-average temperatures.

Met Office Outlook for June

The Met Office has indicated that temperatures could turn "hot" in some areas before the end of June, but also warned of potential thunderstorms. Their forecast for June 16 to 30 states: "The start of the period is likely to be relatively settled, with high pressure in the vicinity of the UK bringing drier conditions to most parts. However, some showers or spells of rain are still possible. Winds will mostly be light with temperatures probably above normal. Towards the end of June, low pressure may begin to have more of an influence, especially across the south where heavy showers and thunderstorms become more probable. It may also become hot in parts of the south."
