Add Salt to Avocado Toast for Creamier Taste, Chef Reveals
Salt Makes Avocado Toast Creamier, Chef Says

Avocado on toast is a popular breakfast for a reason — it's healthy, hearty and delicious. But if you want to make it taste even creamier and more flavourful, you just need one simple ingredient: salt.

Why Salt Works

Elizabeth Lindemann, a culinary expert and founder of Bowl of Delicious, explains that avocado needs seasoning to bring out its flavours. She compares it to chicken broth without salt, which tastes like dirty dishwater. Adding salt amplifies the natural taste and makes the avocado buttery and delicious.

Salt interacts with taste receptors to enhance flavour, and even a modest amount dramatically elevates the taste of avocado. The richness of avocado is balanced by salt, leaving it tasting fresher and creamier.

How to Make Perfect Avocado Toast

To make avocado on toast taste better, follow these steps:

  • One large avocado
  • Two slices of bread
  • Two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
  • One clove of garlic (cut in half)
  • Two lime or lemon wedges
  • Sea salt

Toast the bread until golden. Drizzle each slice with olive oil while warm, then rub with garlic. Halve the avocado, remove the stone, and scoop about a quarter onto each slice. Crush with a fork, then slice the remaining avocado and arrange on top. Season generously with salt and squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice over it.
