Jane Seymour's Youthful Secrets at 74: Fish Stretches & Mediterranean Diet
Jane Seymour's secrets for staying youthful at 74

Hollywood legend and former Bond girl Jane Seymour has shared the intimate details behind her remarkably youthful appearance and vitality at the age of 74.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, the actress opened up about the daily habits and routines she credits for maintaining her fitness, radiance, and energy well into her seventies.

The Morning Ritual: From 'Wiggling Like a Fish' to Nude Sleeping

Seymour begins each day with a purposeful stretch she fondly calls 'wiggling like a fish', a habit she credits to a ballerina friend. She explained that before getting out of bed, she lets her spine, arms, and feet move freely, describing the sensation as 'freeing'.

The actress, who has six adult children, noted she's proficient at waking up early, drawing on her experience as a mother. She also cherishes the small luxuries of quiet moments, often lingering under her duvet to enjoy a moment of calm. Seymour added with a laugh that she enjoys sleeping nude, remarking on the loveliness of not having to wear clothes.

Discipline in Motion: Exercise and Skincare Regimen

Seymour refuses to let busy schedules interfere with her exercise routine. Depending on her available time, she engages in Pilates-type exercises to awaken her body. When pressed for time at home, she'll even do pliés in costume on set while learning her lines, acknowledging that people often laugh at her for this practice.

Her skincare routine is equally meticulous. In the shower, she uses Crepe Erase exfoliant from The Body Firm, a brand she's been partnered with for over a decade. She emphasised that this product sloughs off dead skin cells, ensuring her skin looks firm and 'un-crepey'.

The actress was adamant about the importance of sunscreen, typically using SPF 40 daily. She revealed she learned this lesson 'the hard way' early in her Hollywood career when George Hamilton advised her to 'fry herself', realising afterwards that such practices cause premature ageing.

Nutrition and Soulful Practices

Before work, Seymour takes her vitamins and collagen powder to ensure proper nourishment regardless of what catering provides on set. When on set, she prioritises substantial protein, typically plain scrambled eggs. At home, she harvests fresh produce from her organic garden including basil, lettuce, blueberries, and herbs, while personally collecting eggs from her chickens.

Each morning includes feeding her koi fish by hand, which she describes as a form of meditation, musing that she might have been a koi fish in a previous life. Her creative energy extends to painting watercolours on her ocean-facing balcony, with her artwork later inspiring her fashion designs.

Seymour follows the Mediterranean diet, which she told the Daily Mail includes delicious foods like tomatoes, olives, and fish. She typically has only one substantial meal per day around 1:30 pm, starting her morning with coffee and hard-boiled eggs for protein. Later snacks include pistachios, cold vegetables like cucumbers and celery, and hummus.

Family remains central to her life, with Seymour checking in with all her children daily and keeping close tabs on her four grandchildren. She reflected that what truly feeds her soul is 'family, being outside, appreciating the weather… or doing something I love, which is acting.'

For Jane Seymour, the secret to her ageless grace extends beyond discipline to encompass gratitude. She measures a good day by whether she's 'helped somebody, created something, listened to someone,' proving that youthful vitality stems from both physical care and emotional fulfilment.
