A student accommodation block in Manchester city centre was evacuated on Monday afternoon, June 15, after a carbon monoxide leak was reported. A cordon was established around the Bridgewater Heights building on Great Marlborough Street.
Emergency Response
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene at around 1:15 PM. Five fire engines from across Greater Manchester responded, along with multiple police vehicles. Gas monitors were used to check the building, and crews worked alongside Cadent Gas to ensure safety.
Bottles of water were seen on the ground outside as the pavement and entrance were cordoned off. Those inside were evacuated while investigations took place.
Official Statement
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 1:15 this afternoon (Monday 15 June), five fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to a carbon monoxide leak at a high rise building on Great Marlborough Street, Manchester. Firefighters used breathing apparatus and gas monitors to check the building. They are currently working alongside Cadent Gas to make sure the area and residents are safe. Firefighters remain in attendance at this time.”
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the leak is under investigation.
