Beverley Callard Shares Cancer Treatment Update After Delay
Beverley Callard Cancer Treatment Update After Delay

Beverley Callard has told fans she has her 'fingers crossed' as she offered an update on her upcoming cancer treatment after facing a delay.

Diagnosis and Initial Treatment

The Coronation Street legend revealed in January that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer just 20 minutes before filming her first scenes on Irish soap Fair City, where she plays Lily Patterson. Beverley, known for playing Liz McDonald on ITV's Coronation Street, had three lymph nodes removed as a precaution to prevent the cancer from spreading. She later shared that her consultant said the surgery 'went really well' and they managed to 'cut the cancer out'.

Delays and Progress

However, Beverley, who has been documenting her journey on social media, was recently told she should have started radiotherapy sooner. It wasn't until last week that she made progress in her treatment plans. Sharing clips from the hospital, she said: 'Good news is, it's definitely not a blood clot... they did all the ultrasound, every test going and apparently it's a cyst but it's quite common.'

Regarding her appointment, Beverley said: 'It was all a bit chaotic because their computer system went down... I saw Professor Armstrong, and he said I'll be having 10 days of radiotherapy. Five consecutive days, then a weekend off, then five more days.'

Latest Update

On Monday (June 15), Beverley returned to social media with her latest update. The 69-year-old said: 'Well, I've got news. I have an appointment on Thursday afternoon at 3.30 to have the body scan and body mapping and then hopefully... I will begin the radiotherapy the week after. Next week I'm hoping. So fingers crossed. But, Sod's Law, I'm at work the next Monday, a week today, so hopefully I'll be able to cope with both.'

She added: 'I know some people say you can, others say you can't. But fingers crossed.' Beverley captioned the post: 'So the next appointment date is through, with hopefully a plan to start the radiotherapy next week. But it's Sod's Law that I also go back to work that week so hopefully I can power through both!'
