A light-hearted moment from Royal Ascot has resurfaced, showing the close bond between Princess Kate and the Duchess of Edinburgh. The incident occurred in 2017 when Sophie, then Countess of Wessex, was preparing to board a carriage for the Royal Procession.
The Royal Procession Mishap
As Sophie climbed into the carriage behind Catherine, who was the Duchess of Cambridge at the time, she stumbled forward. Quick reflexes from Catherine prevented a fall, and the two women burst into laughter before the carriage departed.
A Close Friendship
Despite their age difference, Sophie, 61, and Princess Kate, 44, share a strong friendship. Sophie is married to Prince Edward, the youngest brother of King Charles, making Kate her niece by marriage. Their camaraderie was evident in the shared giggles.
Royal Ascot 2026
This year's Royal Ascot began today and runs until Saturday, June 20. Several royals are expected to attend, though Prince Edward will be absent due to other commitments. King Charles will present the King Charles III Stakes, Princess Anne will present the St James's Palace Stakes, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will present the Coventry Stakes.
