Holly Barron, a 22-year-old from Manchester, has shared her remarkable journey of shedding 10 stone in just six months, after years of struggling with her weight. At her heaviest, she weighed 21st 8lbs (136kg) and wore size 3XL clothing, a result of rapid weight gain linked to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and type 2 diabetes.
Health Challenges and Diagnosis
Holly describes her life before the transformation as "feeling like I was existing rather than living." She was diagnosed with PCOS, a hormonal disorder associated with high insulin levels, and type 2 diabetes at age 20, conditions often exacerbated by obesity and inactivity. Her weight gain of eight stone in a year left her confused and distressed, compounded by bullying during her school years.
Medical Intervention and Dietary Shift
In June 2025, after a hospital stay due to intolerance to her diabetes medication Metformin, Holly's clinic recommended Mounjaro. This medication mimics hormones that help regulate insulin and blood sugar. Starting with a 2.5mg dose, she credits it with curbing her appetite and allowing her to recognize fullness, something she lacked before.
Holly overhauled her diet, swapping daily McDonald's breakfasts and Chinese takeaways for a strict regimen. Her new routine includes turkey ham and chicken grills for breakfast, and weighed-out chicken salads with 15 grams of full-fat mayonnaise for dinner. She meticulously tracks carbs and sugars to manage her health.
Results and Future Goals
Now weighing 11st 8lbs and fitting into XS sizes—even children's clothes—Holly plans to lose another two stone. She recently consulted her doctor and awaits blood glucose test results to potentially increase her Mounjaro dosage to 10mg. Holly encourages others facing similar health fears to consider medical options, emphasizing that there's "nothing to be scared of."
Her story highlights the impact of combining medication with dietary discipline, offering hope to those battling weight-related health issues.
