Teddi Mellencamp Hospitalized After Cancer Battle

Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp has revealed the terrifying details of her recent emergency hospitalization, which occurred just months after announcing her stage 4 cancer had become undetectable. The 44-year-old reality television personality shared the harrowing experience on her podcast with Tamra Judge, Two T's In A Pod, describing how a severe medical reaction left her body covered in painful sores.

A Sudden and Severe Reaction

Mellencamp explained that she initially believed she had contracted the flu before waking one morning to discover her entire body covered in what she described as "sores all over my entire body." The markings were not merely cosmetic but caused significant pain and burning sensations. After visiting urgent care, medical professionals immediately directed her to the emergency room for urgent treatment.

Diagnosis: Stevens-Johnson Syndrome

Physicians determined that Mellencamp was suffering from Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare and potentially life-threatening condition that causes the top layer of skin to die, resulting in painful blisters and severe rashes. According to the Mayo Clinic, this constitutes a medical emergency typically requiring hospitalization, with cancer patients facing elevated risks of developing the condition.

The reality star experienced blisters in her mouth, around her eyes, and across her entire body, alongside difficulty swallowing. She required steroid injections and antibiotics during her hospital stay, with doctors emphasizing the necessity of monitoring due to the condition's unpredictable nature. "The reason they were like, 'You have to stay in [the hospital]' is because they can start to get better and then shift right back up," Mellencamp explained.

Timing with Family Milestones

Remarkably, Mellencamp was discharged from the hospital just in time to attend her daughter Dove's sixth birthday party, a particularly meaningful occasion given she had missed the previous year's celebration while recovering from emergency brain surgery. In February 2025, Mellencamp underwent surgery to remove cancerous tumors, forcing her absence from Dove's birthday during her recovery period.

"So happy I am out of the hospital in time for Dove's party," Mellencamp wrote alongside a photograph of her daughter wearing a "Let's Party" tiara. "Last year I couldn't [make it to her party] and it broke my heart." She also shared a tribute to her "miracle baby," referencing Dove's own neurosurgery in 2020 for lambdoid craniosynostosis.

Cancer Journey Continues

Mellencamp's health crisis comes just three months after announcing her separation from husband Edwin Arroyave in late 2024, and despite her cancer being declared undetectable in October, she remains classified as stage four. On her podcast in January, she clarified that while no trace of cancer is detectable, she continues immunotherapy treatment and doesn't feel significantly better.

"There's still no trace of cancer. But I'm still considered stage four and I'm still on immunotherapy, so essentially nothing's changed other than I still don't feel great," Mellencamp stated. "I [hoped] that I would be feeling better by now, but I really don't."

Family Celebrations Amid Health Struggles

Dove's birthday celebration was a joint party with comedian Sarah Tiana's son Cage, held at an indoor recreation center featuring jungle gyms, pizza, and music. Mellencamp and Tiana decorated the venue with nostalgic photographs of their children together throughout the years, creating a joyful atmosphere despite the recent health scare.

In addition to Dove, Mellencamp shares two other children with Arroyave: 13-year-old daughter Slate and 11-year-old son Cruz. The family's resilience continues to be tested as Mellencamp navigates both her cancer recovery and the rare medical complications that have emerged during treatment.
