Seven years after The Big Bang Theory ended, its upcoming spin-off series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, has finally confirmed its release date. The 10-part series will debut on HBO Max in the UK on Friday 24 July, with new episodes arriving weekly on Fridays.
News of the release date was announced alongside the first trailer, which shows Brian Posehn's Bert visiting Kevin Sussman's Stuart at his comic book shop, now set in a post-apocalyptic world. They are joined by an alternate-universe version of Stuart, who claims this nightmare could have been avoided. The trailer also introduces the 'Supreme Ruler of South Pasadena' – John Ross Bowie's Barry – and features appearances from Lauren Lapkus's Denise and comic-book-drawn cameos from Johnny Galecki's Leonard, Jim Parsons's Sheldon and Simon Helberg's Howard.
The official synopsis reads: 'Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we've come to know and love.'
This is the third spin-off from The Big Bang Theory, following Young Sheldon (2017–2024) and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, which debuted in 2024 and has run for two seasons, with a third on the way. The new series comes from creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, alongside screenwriter Zak Penn, known for Marvel films X2 and The Avengers.
