Understanding PIP Payments
Personal Independence Payment is a disability benefit designed to support individuals with long-term physical or mental health conditions, disabilities, or learning difficulties. It helps with the extra costs of daily living and mobility needs.
PIP is divided into two components:
- Daily living component: Standard rate £76.55 per week; enhanced rate £114.80 per week.
- Mobility component: Standard rate £30.20 per week; enhanced rate £80.10 per week.
Claimants who qualify for the enhanced daily living rate and a portion of mobility support could receive up to £187 per week, or £748 per month.
Award Reviews and Duration
The DWP PIP Handbook states that decisions are based on how a condition affects a claimant's daily life and ability to live independently. Award lengths vary according to individual circumstances. The DWP also notes that most awards are reviewed regularly to ensure appropriate support levels.
