Coronation Street's Jude Riordan Gets Support Over Sam's Mental Health Story
Coronation Street Star Jude Riordan Supported Over Sam's Story

Coronation Street star Jude Riordan has been flooded with praise and support from his castmates and fans after revealing that his latest storyline is far from over. The teenage actor, best known for playing Sam Blakeman on the ITV soap, has been tackling his most challenging plot to date as the character's mental health deteriorates.

Sam's Struggle with Mental Health

Sam's troubles began when he discovered that teen Will Driscoll was being groomed by his coach and teacher, Megan Walsh. Megan threatened Sam into silence, but he eventually landed in hospital after taking too many tablets not prescribed to him. While in hospital, he confessed to step-mother Leanne Battersby and her sister Eva Price, Will's stepmother. Megan denied any wrongdoing, but Will later admitted the truth, leading to Megan's arrest. She now awaits trial after pleading not guilty, meaning Sam may have to give evidence, intensifying his visual and auditory hallucinations.

Dramatic Episode

During Friday's hour-long episode, Sam locked himself in the cafe after hearing Roy warning him that Will is going to kill him. Roy found Sam in a terrible state, while Sam's father Nick Tilsley and stepmothers Leanne and Toyah Battersby tried to reach him. Sam, seeing two versions of Roy, threw a chair at the real Roy before fleeing. Carla Connor-Swain later found Sam in the precinct and recognized his psychosis, having experienced it herself. When Nick arrived, Sam panicked and was tackled, eventually falling asleep in the car. He woke up horrified to find they were at Weatherfield General.
