A compassionate couple who stopped to help an injured badger on a rural road were left 'absolutely traumatised' after a terrifying encounter with hostile individuals.
The pair, who wished to remain anonymous, spotted the distressed animal while driving through the countryside. Concerned for its wellbeing, they pulled over to assist—only to be met with aggression from passersby who accused them of harming the creature.
A Good Deed Turns Into a Nightmare
"We just wanted to help," the shaken woman explained. "The badger was clearly hurt, and we couldn’t leave it there. But suddenly, people started shouting at us, saying we’d hit it on purpose."
The situation escalated quickly, with the couple fearing for their safety as the confrontation grew more intense. "It was terrifying," the man added. "We were just trying to do the right thing, and it felt like we were being attacked for it."
Police Called as Tensions Rise
Authorities were eventually called to defuse the altercation, but the emotional damage had already been done. The couple, still reeling from the incident, described feeling "violated and scared" by the ordeal.
Wildlife experts have since reminded the public to approach injured animals with caution and to contact professionals when possible. However, they also stressed that kindness should never be met with hostility.
Aftermath: Seeking Support
The traumatised pair are now receiving counselling to cope with the incident. "We never expected this," the woman said. "We just hope people think twice before jumping to conclusions."
