In a bizarre and sticky home invasion, a black bear with a notorious sweet tooth has ransacked a cabin near Lake Tahoe, making off with a haul of over 60 ice cream bars.
The audacious heist took place in the serene wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, where the bear managed to force its way into a property in the Tahoe Keys area. The homeowner returned to a scene of delicious devastation: the freezer door was pried open, and the floor was littered with the empty wrappers of vanilla and strawberry-flavoured treats.
"It was a mess," the bemused resident recounted, estimating the ursine burglar had consumed a staggering 8,000 calories in one sitting. The bear displayed a particular penchant for the chocolate-covered vanilla bars, meticulously unwrapping each one before consumption.
This isn't the first time this particular gourmand has struck. Local wildlife officials believe it's the same bear responsible for at least two other break-ins in the vicinity, signalling a pattern of behaviour that could be dangerous for both the animal and residents.
Authorities from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are now on the case. While relocation is an option, experts note that bears often find their way back to familiar territory. The incident serves as a critical reminder for those living in bear country to secure trash, remove food attractants, and invest in bear-proof containers to avoid such tempting encounters.
