Emergency services rushed to a major industrial fire at Methil Harbour in Fife on Sunday morning after multiple heavy goods vehicles and trailers caught alight.
Dramatic Scene as Thick Smoke Billows Over Harbour
The incident, which began shortly after 9:10 am, sent plumes of thick black smoke billowing across the harbour area. Drone footage captured the scale of the response, showing firefighters working to control the significant blaze at a yard site.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed they were alerted at 9:11 am. In response, seven fire appliances were mobilised to the scene near the harbour to tackle the flames engulfing the lorries and trailers.
Public Safety Advice Issued During Incident
Due to the large volume of smoke produced by the fire, authorities immediately issued safety guidance to the public. People were urged to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to work unimpeded and to minimise any health risks from the smoke.
As a precaution, local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed. The concerted efforts of the fire crews proved successful, and they managed to fully extinguish the blaze by 11:30 am.
Blaze Deemed Non-Suspicious as Area Declared Safe
Following several hours at the scene, the fire service left the area at around 1:00 pm. A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that the area was safe again and stated that the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
In a positive update, the SFRS confirmed that there were no reported casualties from the incident. A formal fire investigator was not requested to attend the scene following the initial response.
