Original Scream Cast Reunites for 30th Anniversary Premiere of Scream 7
In a nostalgic Hollywood moment, the original cast members from the iconic 1996 horror film Scream gathered together on Wednesday evening in Los Angeles for a special group photograph. The actors were attending the premiere of Scream 7, the latest installment in the blockbuster franchise that is celebrating its remarkable 30th anniversary this year.
A Rare Public Appearance
The reunion saw several key original stars posing together, including Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, and Skeet Ulrich. Notably, Courteney Cox made a rare public appearance near her ex-husband David Arquette, with whom she shares daughter Coco. The former couple, who were married from 1999 until 2013, did not stand side-by-side in the photo but were separated by two co-stars. Cox is currently in a relationship with Snow Patrol rocker Johnny McDaid.
Returning to Woodsboro
The original Scream film, directed by the late Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson, revolutionized the horror genre. Set in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, it followed high school student Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, and her friends as they became targets of a masked serial killer known as Ghostface on the anniversary of her mother's murder. The film also starred Rose McGowan and Drew Barrymore in memorable roles.
Scream 7, directed by Kevin Williamson, continues this legacy with a plot that sees a new Ghostface killer emerging in the quiet town where Sidney has built a new life. Her darkest fears are realized when her daughter Tatum, portrayed by Isabel May from the Yellowstone prequel 1883, becomes the next target. The official synopsis states: 'Determined to protect her family, she must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.' The film also features Mckenna Grace from Regretting You.
Cast Reflections and Returns
Neve Campbell is reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7 after sitting out the 2023 Scream film due to a salary dispute. She recently explained her decision, stating she felt 'undervalued' by the offer from movie executives. 'When I made that decision, I just didn't think I could live with myself walking on set,' Campbell told CBS Mornings. 'I just knew that my value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered.' She admitted fearing this might end her time in the franchise but stood by her choice, receiving widespread support.
Matthew Lillard, returning as Stu Macher—a character who met a bloody end in the original film—described his comeback as 'a risk I was excited to take.' The 55-year-old actor expressed nervousness about how audiences will react to his character's return. 'I'm nervous, because at this point in my life, the only thing I can do is sort of ruin how people consider Stu,' he told People magazine. Despite this, Lillard is confident the film will be 'fantastic' and assured fans it won't ruin the franchise.
