BBC Announces Air Date for Race Across the World Series 6
The BBC has officially confirmed the start date for the highly anticipated sixth series of its popular travel competition show, Race Across the World. The broadcaster revealed that the new season will premiere on Thursday, April 2, marking a return to BBC One and iPlayer for the adventurous programme.
Teams and Route Details for the New Series
Five diverse teams have been selected to undertake what the BBC describes as "the toughest journey yet". The contestants include best friends Jo and Kush, siblings Katie and Harrison, father and daughter Molly and Andrew, cousins Puja and Roshni, and in-laws Mark and Margo. Their monumental challenge involves racing over 12,000 kilometres from Europe to the remote shores of Lake Khövsgöl in northern Mongolia.
The gruelling route will traverse multiple countries, including Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. As with previous series, teams must navigate this vast distance on a tight budget, without the use of mobile phones or aeroplanes, relying instead on their wits and resourcefulness.
First Look and Fan Reactions
A teaser trailer released earlier this month offered a sneak peek at the upcoming series, showcasing contestants battling deep snow, riding horseback, leaping from boats, and hitchhiking. One participant was heard declaring, "This is an adventure," while another reflected, "This race, it's a lifetime of exploring in such a short amount of time. It's going to open up a lot of doors not many people have the privilege to unlock."
Fans have expressed immense excitement on social media following the trailer's release. Comments such as "can't wait" and "Best programme is back!" flooded platforms like Instagram. Former winner Alfie Watts also chimed in, praising the route as "the best of the lot" and wishing luck to the new teams.
Background and Previous Success
Since its debut in 2019, Race Across the World has aired five main series and a celebrity spin-off. The previous season saw teams racing across China, Nepal, and India to Kanniyakumari, with mother-and-son duo Caroline and Tom claiming the £20,000 prize. The show's format, which emphasises cultural immersion and endurance, has consistently captivated audiences, making the announcement of Series 6 a welcome development for loyal viewers.
With its confirmed air date and revealed teams, Race Across the World is set to deliver another thrilling chapter of global exploration and competition this April.
