Streaming giant Netflix has officially announced the development of a major new crime thriller series, 'All the Sinners Bleed', based on the bestselling novel by S.A. Cosby. The project boasts a star-studded cast led by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and is backed by the prestigious production company of Barack and Michelle Obama.
A Compelling Story Comes to Life
The series will adapt the acclaimed 2023 crime novel, which was named one of the best of the year by the Guardian and featured on former President Obama's summer reading list. The story is set in the Deep South and follows Titus Crown, played by Gangs of London star Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, who makes history as the first black sheriff of his county.
His tenure is immediately thrown into chaos when a serial killer begins to taunt him. Crown, already haunted by the sudden death of his deeply religious mother, must track down the murderer who has been quietly targeting the African American community of Charon County, Virginia, for years, all while the killer claims to be acting in the name of god.
The Stellar Cast and Creative Team
Netflix confirmed the series will run for nine episodes and feature an impressive ensemble cast. Joining Dìrísù are:
- Leila George (Disclaimer)
- Daniel Ezra (All American)
- John Douglas Thompson (The Gilded Age)
- Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus)
- Nicole Beharie (The Morning Show)
- Andrea Cortés (On My Block)
The screenplay has been written by Joe Robert Cole, the acclaimed screenwriter behind Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Cole expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "The specificity of the world S.A. Cosby created truly swept me away, and Titus Crown seized my heart."
Prestigious Production Pedigree
Adding significant weight to the project is the involvement of Higher Ground Productions, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama. They will executive produce alongside Amblin Television and the author himself, S.A. Cosby.
The source material was a critical darling upon its release. In addition to its Guardian accolade, The Times declared it 'thriller of the month' and the Financial Times heralded it as one of the 'Best New Crime Books'. Readers on Amazon have left glowing five-star reviews, with one predicting a "powerful Netflix series in the future" and another hoping the adaptation does the book justice.
With a gripping premise, a top-tier cast, and an award-winning production team, 'All the Sinners Bleed' is poised to become Netflix's next major hit in the crime thriller genre.
