Jeremy Clarkson was left utterly astonished during a recent episode of ITV's Millionaire Hot Seat, declaring one player the "luckiest contestant in human history" after a series of remarkable guesses.
The Unbelievable Streak of Guesses
The episode, which aired on Thursday, 8 January 2026, saw a contestant named Lucy become the fifth player to enter the hot seat with the prize pot still at the maximum £1 million. The show, a spin-off of the classic Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, features six contestants rotating through the seat with just 15 seconds to answer each question and no lifelines, though a single 'pass' is allowed.
From her very first question, Lucy confessed to host Jeremy Clarkson that she did not know the answer. She took a guess and, to everyone's surprise, was correct. This pattern repeated itself. On her second question, she again admitted ignorance, telling the other contestants, "Sorry, sorry if I'm wrong, everybody!" before guessing right once more.
Her third question followed the same theme, with Lucy stating, "Just to go with the theme, I don't know the answer to this either!" Yet again, her guess was correct, prompting a stunned Clarkson to exclaim, "You're right again! Luckiest contestant in human history!"
Where the Luck Ran Out
Lucy's incredible run saw her progress to the £100,000 question. Clarkson asked: "Which of these people was the oldest when they first achieved the following?" The options were Leonardo DiCaprio winning an Oscar, David Beckham getting a knighthood, Barack Obama becoming US President, or David Bowie winning a BRIT Award.
Once more, Lucy admitted she did not know. As the clock ticked down, she finally selected David Bowie winning a BRIT Award. This time, however, her luck deserted her. "Your luck's run out, that is the wrong answer, I'm really sorry. We must say goodbye after a very good run," Clarkson told her.
The Ripple Effect on the Prize Pot
Lucy's elimination caused the jackpot to drop for the first time in the episode, falling to £250,000. The dramatic turn of events continued when the next contestant also answered incorrectly, meaning the final player was competing for just £100,000, with a safety net of £1,000.
Unfortunately, the last contestant also had to guess and got it wrong. The correct answer to the £100,000 question was, in fact, David Beckham receiving his knighthood at the age of 50.
