"We were on a train coming back from Edinburgh," Maureen revealed with characteristic wit. "He mentioned it was a particular day in the Jewish calendar that's somewhat like Valentine's Day - apparently a day when women can ask men to marry them."
Seizing the comedic opportunity, the actress didn't hesitate. "So I slid under the table on the train and said, 'Will you marry me?'" she recounted. "He responded, 'Are you serious?' and I said, 'Yeah, go on then.'" The couple married last summer in a celebration that marked a new chapter for both.

Maureen also addressed her current status on Coronation Street, confirming her character Evelyn Plummer has temporarily left the soap. "My character has gone to university to study law, with a special emphasis on canine law," she explained with amusement. "Don't ask me what it means - I'm kind of out now, really."

"She goes into places and she sings and she entertains, and nobody wants her," Maureen explained of her character. "They're really trying to make her miserable like everybody else. But of course, when she is miserable, they don't like her that way either."
While admitting the touring schedule presents challenges at this stage of her career, the actress remains committed to the project. "It's tiring at this time of life," she acknowledged candidly. "But look at Anne Reid - she's the most ambitious actress I have met in a good way."
