Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt delivered a heartfelt tribute live on air to the beloved dog Ted, who belonged to BBC Gone Fishing stars Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse. The 52-year-old presenter paused the cooking programme to express his sympathies after the devastating loss.
Emotional Moment on Saturday Kitchen
During the May 2 episode, Matt was joined by drinks expert Olly Smith, chefs Vivek Singh and Donna Hay, and guest Lucy Beaumont. While chatting with Lucy about her appearance on Paul Whitehouse's podcast, Matt revealed that Paul had texted in. The conversation took a sombre turn as Matt said: 'Good morning Paul, if you're watching at home. Also sorry about Ted, that was terrible news.' Olly added: 'Yeah, that was sad news. Raising a glass to Ted. So sad. Sadly the dog passed away.'
Ted's Journey from Rescue to Stardom
Ted, a Patterdale Terrier cross, was rescued from a Surrey shelter in spring 2013 when he was about six months old. He was adopted by Lisa Clark, the executive producer of Gone Fishing, and made his television debut in Series 3, episode 3 of the BBC Two show. Ted quickly became a fan favourite, winning several awards for his charming on-screen presence.
Tributes Pour In
After Ted's passing, Lisa Clark paid tribute: 'Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen.' Bob Mortimer shared his heartbreak: 'So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much.' Paul Whitehouse also mourned: 'Bye bye Ted old friend. He wasn't a dog, he was a species all of his own. He's gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate.'
