After weeks of promoting her latest film, Wuthering Heights, in Victorian-inspired red carpet looks, Margot Robbie debuted a strikingly different ensemble at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday evening.
A Dazzling Arrival
The Australian actress shone in a soft gold strapless gown with a drop hem, designed by Chanel. She elevated her stature with strappy gold stilettos that complemented rather than overshadowed her dress. However, her most standout accessory was her breathtaking jewelry. Robbie swept her hair into a chic updo, revealing a pair of stunning canary-yellow diamond drop earrings.
She exited The Mark Hotel alone, without her husband, Tom Ackerley, by her side.
Wuthering Heights Success
Robbie's appearance comes on the heels of the massive promotional tour for Wuthering Heights, co-starring Jacob Elordi. In March, reports indicated that the gothic romance had surpassed $230 million worldwide, becoming one of the year's biggest theatrical surprises just two weekends into its release.
The Warner Bros./MRC release is now among the highest-grossing films of the year, trailing only Project Hail Mary. Directed by Emerald Fennell, Wuthering Heights dominated international markets, earning $26.3 million from 76 territories. With a reported production budget of $80 million, the R-rated romantic drama has grossed $236 million globally, exceeding expectations and establishing itself as a rare hit targeting adult audiences.
True to the Brontë novel, the film is set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors and follows the intense, destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Robbie and Elordi portray the star-crossed lovers Catherine and Heathcliff. The film was produced by Robbie's company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
Controversy Surrounding the Gala
This year's Met Gala has been marred by controversy, as Hollywood insiders express outrage over Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, 62, and his wife, Lauren Sanchez, sponsoring the event. Rumors suggest the couple donated $10 million to the Costume Institute in exchange for being named honorary co-chairs.
The theme of the 2026 gala, often referred to as the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets, is "Costume Art," with the dress code "Fashion Is Art."
