Fans will recognise many faces in Netflix's new action thriller series Man on Fire. All seven episodes of the show are now streaming on the platform. At the time of writing, just days after release, it is already surging its way to the top of the charts, becoming one of the most watched among subscribers.
Man on Fire is the latest adaptation of the first book in a series of novels written by A.J. Quinnell. There was a previous big-screen version of the same works made back in 2004. In that title, the protagonist was played by Denzel Washington, as he tried to protect a young Dakota Fanning. Some changes have been made for this updated iteration, along with a whole new cast.
Who is in the cast of Man on Fire Netflix series?
This time around, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II takes on the lead role of John Creasy. Viewers will recognise him from recent Marvel series Wonder Man, as well as the movies Candyman and The Matrix Resurrections where he played Morpheus. He also played the villain Black Manta in the two Aquaman movies, as well as appearing in HBO's Watchmen series and horror film Us. Other credits include The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Michael Bay's Ambulance.
Alongside him is Alice Braga, who plays Valeria Melo, a taxi driver who gets pulled in to help Creasy on his mission. Fans will recognise Braga for many of her past roles, including as the lead in another Netflix series, Queen of the South. She also appeared in Apple TV series Dark Matter. Her film credits include The Suicide Squad and The New Mutants, plus Predators where she played Isabelle. She also starred opposite Will Smith in sci-fi title I Am Legend.
Billie Boullet, known for The Worst Witch, plays Poe Rayburn, whom Creasy is trying to protect throughout Man on Fire. The 21-year-old also played Anne Frank in the miniseries A Small Light.
Alex Ozerov-Meyer takes on the role of Creasy's ally Ivan, after previously playing Mischa in The Americans. He has also appeared in episodes of Orphan Black and Blindspot.
The cast is rounded out by a number of guest stars. They include Paul Ben-Victor, known for The Wire, True Detective and The Irishman, who plays Moncrief. Bobby Cannavale also stars as Creasy's long-time friend Paul Rayburn. The actor's previous work includes Only Murders in the Building, The Watcher, as well as the Ant-Man movies. Scoot McNairy plays Tapper, Creasy's CIA contact. McNairy is known for True Detective, Narcos: Mexico and Halt and Catch Fire.
According to Netflix's synopsis, Man on Fire tells the story of John Creasy. Once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations, Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.
