Fans of the hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox have rallied behind two of its most beloved stars after they humorously put themselves forward for one of television's biggest vacancies.
A Playful Bid for the Ballroom
Siblings Simon and Jane Minty, who have been firm favourites on Gogglebox since joining in 2021, have launched a tongue-in-cheek campaign to become the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing. This comes after the long-serving presenting duo Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly announced their departure from the BBC One show back in October.
The pair made their final appearance in the famous ballroom during the Christmas Day special, signing off after more than a decade at the helm. While the BBC is yet to confirm their replacements, the Minty siblings decided to stage their own light-hearted 'audition'.
The Hilarious Instagram 'Audition'
Over the festive period, the duo from Surrey took to Instagram to share a short video clip. In it, Simon, 57, turns to his sister and asks, "Wanna do this right, yeah?" to which Jane enthusiastically agrees.
Mimicking the style of the show's hosts, Simon continues, "Oh, you've been a wonderful couple, and you left it all out on the dance floor. Oh the judges scores are in." Jane then plays frantically with her hair, exclaiming, "It's excellent, excellent," before the pair hold hands, do a twirl, and strike a tango pose.
They sign off with the iconic Strictly line, "Keep dancing," in a clear nod to Winkleman and Daly. The post was captioned: "Thanks Tess and Claudia, you’ve been great. #Strictly #Gogglebox".
Overwhelming Fan Support and Background
The post was quickly flooded with compliments from amused followers and friends, showing strong support for the idea. One fan declared it "Brilliant would definitely keep watching with you both," while another awarded a perfect score, writing, "Love this! It’s a 10 from me!". A third simply stated, "You got my vote!!".
Away from their television reviewing duties, both siblings have distinct lives. Simon, who was born with restricted growth, is a dedicated disability rights advocate. Jane works professionally as a chef. For the past four years, they have entertained the nation from their sofa with their witty and humorous commentary on the week's TV highlights.
While their video was clearly made in jest, the warm response highlights their popularity and the genuine affection viewers have for the pair. The search for the new Strictly Come Dancing hosts continues, but for now, fans can catch Simon and Jane on Gogglebox, which airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
