BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones expressed genuine concern for his co-star Jeanette Kwakye after she shared details of a painful injury during a recent episode of the show. The incident unfolded on Thursday, March 19, as the programme returned with Gethin hosting alongside Jeanette, following a segment about Radio 1 DJ Greg James's cycle challenge for Comic Relief.
Injury Discussion on Air
During the broadcast, the pair were joined by Dr Kasim Ahmed to discuss painful injuries and the advisability of exercising while recovering. Dr Kasim emphasised that recovery depends on the specific injury, highlighting the importance of rest and a gradual return to exercise routines.
Jeanette's Personal Revelation
As the conversation turned to knee injuries, Jeanette opened up about her own recent mishap. She explained that she had taken a tumble on the slopes while covering the Winter Olympics in Italy for the BBC. "Now, oh gosh, this is something I've been struggling with - I had a little fall at the Winter Olympics," she admitted, prompting the show to play a video clip of the incident.
In the footage, Jeanette was seen filming herself on the snowy slopes when she slipped. "I was sending a video to my brother and sister and then I fell," she recounted, as her co-stars in the studio watched in shock, trying not to laugh. Jeanette added, "We can all laugh now," to which Gethin responded with concern, "It's a classic human reaction. You laugh but then you go 'oh my goodness!' Are you ok? You slipped on ice?"
Recovery and Reflection
Jeanette, a retired sprinter, confirmed that she was alright, attributing the fall to ice and admitting, "I should have been paying more attention so shame on me!" She revealed that she had hurt her knee ligament but had recently returned to the gym after taking some time off to recover.
Context of the Show
This appearance came after Gethin had left another co-star, Helen Skelton, red-faced earlier in the week. During a Strictly Fitness segment hosted by Greg Rutherford, Helen's dance routine from Strictly Come Dancing was used, causing her to hide her face in embarrassment as Gethin teased, "She loves watching it back!"
Morning Live airs on BBC One weekdays at 9.30am and is available on BBC iPlayer.
